Roots: The Persecuted Church
2026 Fall/Winter Semester:
The Persecuted Church
This course will not be a time of defeat and sadness, but a time of triumph over the enemy and joy in the Spirit. “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37 (NKJV) Each session will be complete in itself. If you cannot come to all sessions or even if you can come to only one, you will benefit without feeling that you missed the point of the whole course. Each session will include: 1. Scriptures concerning the Persecuted 2. Examples from the Persecuted 3. Videos of the Persecuted 4. Lessons from the Persecuted 5. Resources to help serve the Persecuted 6. Discussion and Q&A concerning the Persecuted 7. Prayer for the Persecuted
In our Christian circles we tend to emphasize life in our risen Lord. Lives full of victory, harmony, health, glory, triumph and joy. The Bible does encourage us to rejoice in Christ’s victory. However, in our experience few of us see or experience the scriptural mandate to share in His sufferings for righteousness sake. There is a different reality for persecuted Christians. They are learning daily what it means to, “. . . know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,” Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) They are also learning to stand firm in the faith and are refusing to deny Christ in the face of torture, imprisonment and death. And this is not just a burden, but a profound privilege and reward for growing nearer to Christ and pleasing Him. As the persecuted see the suffering our Lord endured and participate in it, their faith is strengthened and they experience the same joy as our Lord. As we pray for and participate in the lives of the persecuted we will experience some of the joy and nearness to the Lord as well. And we will be an inspiration and encouragement to our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ.

ROOTS is a Discipleship Training ministry of Living Church. The purpose for ROOTS is to support our house churches in the equipping and training of made and new disciples of Jesus. Roots trains in understanding biblical truth, helping disciples of Jesus apply and translate biblical truth into everyday life, leading to obedience to Jesus, spiritual fruit, and a multiplication of disciples for the glory of Jesus.
"But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word." - Jesus // Mark 4:17
"And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness." - The Apostle Paul // Colossians 2:6-7
